We asked Megyn a few questions about being a transaction coordinator and here’s what she said:
What is your day-to-day as a transaction coordinator?
My day-to-day is always a little different. There’s a small mountain of paperwork that needs to be gathered at different points throughout every transaction, so I’m working with agents to make sure we have all documents and reports needed throughout the process. Every transaction is a little bit different and there are many time-sensitive elements to keep track of, so I help agents stay organized with the different due dates and contingencies written into their deals. I do this with many agents and on average about 60 open escrows at a time. I also work with our brokers to review contracts for compliance with state and federal regulatory agencies, and to help protect our clients by making sure their contracts are as airtight as possible.
Why did you want to work as a transaction coordinator?
I fell into it randomly. I’m a professional violinist and worked for 10+ years as an independent music studio owner and started helping one of my music colleagues with his new real estate business, just doing basic assistant tasks. That kept evolving until I decided to get licensed and started to TC for other agents at the brokerage. That was right before covid, and right before the market went bananas. I cut my teeth at TCing by managing 100+ transactions at a time during the shutdown.
What’s your favorite part of the job?
There’s so much to learn about real estate, and every transaction is a little different, so I’m always learning new things. It’s also the type of job where the organization is everything and the more efficient I can make my workday, the easier it gets and the more freedom I have with my day. Of course, I’m not a robot and don’t want to be one, so the more flexibility I have with my day, the more I can give individual attention to agents and clients. A fringe benefit is that I have more time and energy for the musical part of my life at the end of the day, which is still super important to me.
Favorite part of Silverleaf Realty?
I prefer working with a small, boutique brokerage far more than with large, corporate conglomerates. And this group of agents and staff is amazing. I’ve now grown accustomed to our agents working at a high level of professionalism and giving their full attention and care to their clients, but when I first started, I was shocked by how highly dedicated everyone is to their work. There are so many real estate agents out there that give the industry a bad name, and I used to work with those people at larger, corporate brokerages. But here, everyone sets the bar very high, and that attitude is contagious and super refreshing.
